Deluge sprinkler systems have 'open' (no operating element) sprinklers or spray nozzles. There is no water and only ambient air in the pipe work but when the control valve is opened manually or by an automatic pilot detection system, water will flow from all of the heads simultaneously to deluge the area with water. Deluge systems are ideal where water is needed over a whole pre-defined area quickly to control a fast-developing fire. Deluge Fire protection sprinkler systems are also ideal in buildings in which there is a likelihood of the pipes freezing and bursting.
