At around 2215 on Saturday 3rd September a fire broke out in a ground floor test area of a semi conductor manufacturer in Langley Park, Chippenham, Wiltshire.
The electrical fire activated one pendant sprinkler head on the wet pipe system within the two storey factory and the fire was reported to be ‘out on arrival’.
Details of this incident were confused by the fact that a large fire service attendance and protracted incident was reported. It however turned out that this was due to a roof collapse at the building caused by heavy and persistent rain in the locality. Sadly the roof collapse caused more disruption than the fire.
