Fire Sprinkler Project Director
Fire Defence Servicing is a private family-owned Fire Sprinkler contractor based in Devon but working UK wide.
Due to planned growth, we are looking for a Fire Sprinkler Project Director based in the south-east to join our team.
Our ethos is to work closely as a team and we are looking for an individual who can work with us and deliver exceptional service to our clients. The role will be home/ site based with travel to the office when and where required.
Working closely with the other business Directors along with the Project teams, your roles and responsibilities will include all of the following:
General
- Demonstrate understanding of ‘Word’, ‘Excel’, ‘Outlook’, ‘Adobe’, and other software and complete tasks using these software packages.
- Operate Computer Aided Design software and plotter to achieve complete drawing on own and print/plot a copy.
- Issue drawings to third parties using ‘drawing issue sheet’, both manually and electronically.
Design Engineer

- Complete the Basic, Intermediate and Advanced level Sprinkler Design Training
- Carry out on-site training with direct engineers to understand Site conditions, materials and working practices, couplings and brackets and identify different pipe sizes and types.
- Understand the filing system and be able to find specific documents in a project file.
- Prepare design drawings in accordance with BS EN 12845,BS9251 FM ,NFPA along with other worldwide standards.
- Carry out towns main flow test using Vernon Morris Test Equipment.
- Design water supply main from towns main connection, including valve pit etc.
- Design valve set arrangement and trim (eg. wet, alternate, tail end, pre-action etc).
- Design water storage tank arrangement with connection details.
- Design pump house layout for OH & HH systems (eg electric, diesel & jockey).
- Design builders work for tank, u/g main, thrust blocks, valve pits, pumps, valve sets. Demonstrate understanding of hazard classification for various risks.
- Design a Light Hazard pre-calculated system.
- Design Ordinary Hazard I, II & III systems to soffit, void and false ceiling areas:-
– based on pre-calculated pipe sizing.
– based on full hydraulically calculated pipe sizing.
– for property protection systems.
– for life safety systems - Carry out a full design example to OH III, with towns main feed, including hydraulic calcs without supervision/assistance, for review by Project Manager:
– for property protection system.
– for life safety system. - Design High Hazard occupancy risk systems:
– based on pre-calculated pipe sizing.
– based on full hydraulically calculated pipe sizing.
– for property protection systems.
– for life safety systems - Carry out full design example to HH with full hydraulic calcs, including pumped supplies, without supervision/assistance, for review by Project Manager:-
- Design High Hazard Storage risk systems:-
– based on pre-calculated pipe sizing.
– based on full hydraulically calculated pipe sizing.
– for combined roof and rack systems. - Carry out full design example to HH with full hydraulic calcs, including pumped supplies, without supervision/assistance,
- Design Dry / Wet Riser systems.
- Design Hose Reel systems.
- Attend coordination meetings with other service trades and produce coordinated layouts.
- Read company Health & Safety Policy and be aware of standard Method Statements and Risk Assessments.
- Attend system commissioning with Project Manager / Service Engineer .
- Complete and update cost control sheets on project and be responsible for profitability of projects
- Prepare project programme/planning bar charts for design, procurement and installation.
- Liaising with clients, insurers and consultants.
- Maintaining contract file and following QA procedures as laid down in Contract Practice Guide.
- Participate in the training of CAD Trainees and Designers
- Supervision of site installation staff.
- Procurement of materials and services
- Complete and update cost control sheets on project and be responsible for profitability of projects
- Manage the staff within your team to achieve efficient use of resources
- Carry out appraisals with staff within your team
- Ensure contracts are completed, on time, within budget, to programme.
- Achieve and where possible improve the profitability of contracts and meet the annual turnover/profit targets set for the team.
- Develop client relationships
- Attend Director Health & Safety Course
- Prepare project programme/planning bar charts for design, procurement and installation. Liaising with clients, insurers and consultants.
- Maintaining contract file and following QA procedures as laid down in Contract Practice Guide.
- Participate in the training of CAD Trainees and Designers.
- Supervision of site installation staff.
- Prepare Operating & Maintenance Manuals of systems installed.
- Attend IOSH Health & Safety Course and manage health and safety matters on site. Prepare Operating & Maintenance Manuals of systems
- Ensure quotations are completed on time and accurately.
- Meet the annual order intake/profit targets set for the company.
- Develop client relationships and provide the best customer service you can to endeavour to achieve a long term relationship

What we offer:
Salary – £65,000-80,000
20 days holiday plus 8 bank holidays inclusive a year & compulsory office shut down between Christmas and New Year
