Ipswich Office Block: August 2016

At 2019 on 29th August 2016 Suffolk Fire & Rescue Service received an AFA signal to a 6 storey office fire-sprinklerblock towards the centre of the town. On arrival at the premises operational crews were faced with smoke issuing from the car park at ground floor level and upon investigation it was identified that an amount of cardboard and rubbish had been placed within the car park and set alight.

This had activated a single head from the sprinkler system which had controlled the fire to the point of extinction with only remedial action and checking of hotspots/turning over from the operational personnel required. The operational personnel then liaised with the premises and gave advice on securing the sprinkler system.

The damage from the fire was contained to the cardboard and rubbish with no spread to any adjacent or overhead structure/combustibles.
